Scope Of Work
In the summer of 2018 Metis Construction had the privilege of renovating and restoring the Garfield Robbins Zimmerman House. The house was purchased by Hiram College in 2013 and in 2018 it was rezoned from residential to commercial. Metis Architect Elizabeth Eaken facilitated the rezoning through the Village of Hiram Planning and Zoning Commission and lead the project from design thru construction. Epic Engineering, also proposed for this project, were the engineers on the project as well. Eric Fenton was the structural engineer on the project and is extremely familiar with every aspect of the houses structure. The front porch of the house was reconstructed and reinforced to meet commercial loading all while maintaining its historic character. The exterior of the house was repainted, and minor interior renovations/restorations were completed. Most notably for the use of the structure, the floor of the main area of the house was reinforced in order to accommodate the required floor loading for commercial assembly space.
